We offer unique coastal Mexican cuisine reminiscent of being on the beach in Baja or the Yucatan, with flavors from all over Latin America. The Taco Bar is a favorite spot for locals where you can pull up a stool and watch the cooks prepare tacos and quesadillas to order in the display kitchen. Being that close to the action and interacting with the cooks always makes for a memorable experience! Some of our best-sellers include our killer tostadas, freshly made ceviche and flavorful paella. The Long Bar welcomes you to have a seat and enjoy one of over 160 tequilas beautifully displayed behind the bar. Tres' margaritas are hand shaken and the stuff of legends, made with a secret recipe that guarantees the best tasting margs in town. If tequila isn't your libation of choice, we also offer a full bar, an intelligent wine list featuring local vintners, along with wines from Spain, Portugal, Chile and Argentina and a full range of beers from local producers and Mexico.

What happened?
A few months ago the food and drinks were great.
Menu changed, food is terrible, Margaritas tastes like it came from a bucket instead of made fresh.
Too bad.
Vibe and service are still good though!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 27, 2023Previous reviewSomething changed for the better.
Tres used to be the "hey, it's a cool downtown 1 drink and some chips to start the night" spot
Last week we went and the food was good
Service was great
And the drinks were on point
Still a bit pricey, 100+ for 2 adults and 2 kids, but was pleasantly surprised.
Great job tres. - Tony J.Roseville, CA217449Apr 13, 2024
The food was terrible. Carnitas was dry, like chewing on beef jerky. It was like it was cooked last week and then reheated multiple times and then served to us. We couldn't even finish our meals it was that bad and it wasn't even worth taking home. I'm not sure my first large margarita even had tequila in it, couldn't taste it that's for sure. With all the other Mexican restaurants we saw in Chico I would avoid this one definitely. Don't let the facade fool you.

After attending the Down Town Art & Wine walk we headed to Tres Hombres because when does Mexican food and drinks sound like a bad idea? Never! It was about 8pm, we were looking to sit outside and noticed 9 empty tables and thought we'd be able to sit and eat quickly but... nope! We were told that all the tables were waiting on previous customers and Tres Hombres gives each table a 15 minute grace period after their reservation time so we would be seated in 20 minutes if there was an open table at that point. We decided to put our name on the list (they'd text us when the table was ready) and continued our walk downtown. Luckily we found another business that was still serving beer as well as mini charcuterie plates so we parked it there until we got the text and headed back to Tres Hombres.
Once we arrived we were sat immediately, menus, water and drink orders were taken and chips and salsa were dropped off at the table. I hadn't been to the restaurant in many years and was looking forward to order one of two specific dishes. When the waitress came back I asked about the chicken enchiladas or chicken flautas (sp?) and found out they didn't serve either one any longer. BUMMER! Sad face. She advised that the enchilada sauce had been switched to mole sauce and that there was no option for flautas (not even taquitos, another sad face). I decided to try the green mole and hoped that the flavor wouldn't be too smokey. I ordered the green mole meal with beans & rice, (they have 5 moles to choose from) and my friend ordered quesadillas. The food took a long time to come out however, it was really nice outside so we just sat and enjoyed the evening, our beers and the chips & salsa.
When the food was brought out, I was pleasantly surprised! I'm not usually a fan of mole but the green option was delish! I would definitely recommend it, it was that tasty. I tried to eat everything on the plate but couldn't, they served a LOT of food. the waitress came around a few times to check on us, and honestly, we couldn't have been happier :) $28 for a beer, lots of chips & salsa and a huge plate of yummy Mexican food, yeah budddddy. I was 100% STUFFED and 100% muy feliz. Great spot for outdoor dining, good vibes and tasteh food!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1Mar 3, 2014Previous reviewI haven't been to Tres Hombres in years (probably about 10 to be exact) and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have expanded to the outdoors. I love the open air patio, its much more big city... South Beach, SF, LA and NY all have outdoor seating, why cant Chico?! WE CAN! AND WE WILL! We WILL be cool like all those other big city spots!
Aside from the new patio, the chips and dip were stellar, my drink (see photo) was deelish and the server was on it! She was cute, attentive and had quick answers to all of my questions about the drinks/menu. The food was "meh" (we ordered the sampler plate... again, see pix) I've definitely had better Mexican fusion food. I'm sure the more you drink, the better the food tastes ;)
Four stars for ambiance, outdoor seating, tasty drinks and awesome service. Hell yeah, I'll be back, once the rain stops and the suns a shinin, I'll be on the outdoor patio enjoying a tasteh cocktail. - DavÃd V.San Diego, CA205117152Jul 26, 2023
The host was very friendly and attentive. He was on top of making sure our chips and salsa dish was never empty. Our server was nice- not as attentive as he should have been. Our food came out pretty quick as well!

I'm the only person I know who isn't entirely enamored by Tres Hombres. They do make the best margaritas and sometimes we drop in just for Happy Hour, but the food, starting with the complimentary chips and salsa is just meh. Service is always good. Indoor acoustics are also not great, but the ambience is casual and comfortable. I'll keep coming back if only for the house margarita; if I'm craving superior Mexican food, I'll go to Tres Marias.

We visited downtown Chico for the first time, we were walking around on a Friday (late afternoon) looking for a place to eat. We walked in (I didn't check Yelp this time Lol), since this place was one of the ones with more people dinning so we decided to eat here. Service was friendly and the food was delicious, we had a good experience at this restaurant.

What Happened??? Horrible food again. Read the reviews. Historically, Tres has always struggled with the quality of food. But this summer we took another chance and the food was meh, ok. The drinks are always good. Service is a toss up but last night was horrific. Bad service, horrible food. And automatic 20% tip charge for a party of 6. I certainly don't mind the tip amount but for waaay better service and food. Felt like we got robbed.

Had some refreshing drinks last night while at the Thursday night market. Service is always good here and they provided a cool environment.

Food is not authentic Mexican AT ALL!! I got nachos and instead of being normal beans it was nasty and I could barely finish them. Even tho the food is subpar, I love their margaritas and guacamole. and their avocado margarita is to die for. Service is really good and the place is a nice spot for dinner I just wish their main course menu was as good as their drinks. If you like American Mexican food, you'll like Tres, but if you want authentic, skip it.
